Available at Topnotch Ode To The Bedroom TAKING YOUR BEDROOM FROM BLAND TO BRILLIANT Benjamin Franklin famously advised that the way to be healthy, wealthy and wise was By Dana DuGan “early to bed and early to rise.” He was pretty spot on about this. Ideally, we spend about a third of our lives being abed, in a room all of our own creation, which will make us better people. Of course, creating a bedroom that will induce wellness and wisdom is highly personal. There’s no blueprint on how to do this, just some hints. Like Goldilocks on a hunt for a nap, it needs to be the one that is just right. So we spend a lifetime changing it up, tweaking the colors, moving the furniture and flipping the mattress. That’s a fair amount of fine tuning over a long period of time. Even the walls of our sleeping quarters change over the years from music and art posters to photos of children to art work. Then again, a bedroom cries out for simplicity. Just a few choice pieces are needed. Consider the comfortable chair for putting on shoes, reading or entertaining. Is the bedside table the right height and within easy reach? Is there a good book awaiting? Do you have tissues, a clock, a glass of water and the right accoutrements? On the bed itself, there’s a spread or blanket, or maybe a downy throw that puffs up into mounds of comfort. Within, there is the smooth feel of high thread counts, and fluffy pillows. All this with perhaps a little companionship, be it human, feline or canine. Now we’re content. Now we dream. 32 SUN VALLEY SOURCE
